Wordless Wednesday: Fall Planting Time!

Fall is here and it’s time to change beds from summer to cool-weather crops. Peppers are hanging on, but kales and lettuces are making their way into the picture. Celebrate these transitions as fall planting time comes on.

Wordless Wednesday Red Fife
Fed Fife seed-starts in a Grow BioIntensive seed flat. Ready for planting!
Wordless Wednesday Loquat
Loquat trees are starting to flower here in California.
Wordless Wednesday Kale Seedlings
Seedlings for 11 different varieties of kale are snug under grow lights. We just transplanted them up from 2″ cells. Soon we’ll thin to one seedling each and plant them out in a couple weeks.
Wordless Wednesday Cilantro
Volunteer cilantro (well, we helped by scattering seeds from spent plants) pop up in a cleared raised bed.
Wordless Wednesday Straweberry
Everbearing strawberries are ripe and ready to pick as we head into fall. We’ll get a crop in December too.
Wordless Wednesday Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are almost ready to harvest. Come November we’ll be digging them up.
Wordless Wednesday Goji Berries
Goji berries are off the chain this year. Our first real bumper crop since planting them a couple years ago.
Wordless Wednesday Anaheim pepper
Anaheim peppers continue to produce. We’ll plant our fall crop around them and cut the plant down once it’s finished producing.
Wordless Wednesday Pomegranate
Our bare-root Pom gave us 6 fruits this year. A great effort for a tiny tree. Almost ready to harvest.
