Minnie and Moon Unboxing

Gardenerds love gardening toys, especially in spring. There’s something very satisfying about a fresh new ball of jute twine or a well-made hand tool. As if spring wasn’t exciting enough, we recently received a gift certificate to go crazy at Minnie and Moon, a great new online garden store that imports well-made British tools and goodies to the US.

If you read our November, 2014 newsletter about Minnie and Moon, you’ll get the story behind the products, (In the interest of full disclosure, we have an affiliate membership with Minnie and Moon, so any purchases you make through our links gives a little bit back to Gardenerd.) Now on to the unboxing:

We ordered a few things: bees wax taper candles, twine (one of each color, of course), and a paper pot maker. It seems like every gardenerd should have one of those, right?

Beeswax candles in several colors. We opted for creme for all occasions.

They make these beeswax taper candles in small batches, with eco-friendly dyes and no chemicals. What could be better?

Twine! One can never have too much twine.

Natural jute twine is essential for every gardenerd. We use it for guiding beans and peas, cucumbers and even melons. Then at the end of the season, we compost it if it’s broken or worn out. Currently twine is keeping our heirloom wheat patch from spilling into pathways.

A want for some, a need for others: the Paper Pot Maker
A want for some, a need for others: the Paper Potter

The idea of never having to buy seedling pots again is exciting. Bury the pot when you bury the plant (be sure to completely bury it or the newspaper will wick out moisture from the soil).

This Paper Pot Maker has been on our wish list for awhile.

Recycle your newspaper into pots for spring seedlings with this Paper Potter. It’s easy, just wrap a strip of newsprint around the wooden dowel, then fold the bottom edges under and crimp the bottom into place with the mortise and tenon-like tool. Paper pots for everyone!

We love giving small businesses a plug (especially those garden-related), so check out Minnie and Moon for yourself and your gardenerd friends.
