Cabbage is En Vogue for 2026

We’ve never been trendy here at Gardenerd, but when Vogue Magazine recently featured Cabbage as a trend for 2026, I can honestly say we were ahead of that trend. Cabbage has been en vogue at Gardenerd for years.

Perhaps you saw our video on the best cabbage varieties from October, 2024. They’ll make your garden look sexy and stylish anytime.

Violaceo cabbage
Violaceo di Verona is gorgeous and tasty.

Cabbage is a cool-season crop that does best when grown in fall in warm-winter climates. Colder climates can plant cabbage in spring and enjoy their color and frivolity all season long.

Start from seed indoors (for more interesting varieties), or grab seedlings at your nursery (for tried and true options). Plant them out when your soil is warm enough, and keep them protected with floating row cover to prevent cabbage moths from eating them leaves.

Cooking with Cabbage

Some of our favorite recipes with cabbage are easy to make. They include both cooked and raw versions of this trendy veggie. Check out these options:

Chilean Cabbage with Avocado Slawgrated raw cabbage mixed with avocado and lemon juice, and a hint of spice. It’s delicious.

Stir-fried Cabbage with Chilis, Peanuts, and Peasa cooked dish that comes together quickly and makes a big batch to enjoy over several meals.

Cabbage Muthias a little more involved, but impressive nonetheless. These cabbage dumplings will shine at any dinner party.

Join us in making cabbage en vogue again, according to Vogue Magazine. If you don’t already love cabbage, you will soon!
