June is here, (summer starts sooner than the solstice) and we’re ready to enjoy the garden this month. Here’s some inspiration to keep you going in June.
Vegetables of June
Our sweet corn is tasseling now, it really makes everything feel like summer when that happens. Several varieties of yard long beans have popped up. Green onions are volunteering between them. We’re transplanting those elsewhere. Gotta love this Canestrino tomato with all its pleats. Bush lima beans are getting started, sending up flower stalks from their stems.
Fruits of June
Our mandarin is setting fruit. It’s going to be a good winter citrus season.Fuji apples are decorating their branches. Our pineapple is growing larger and looks more like a pineapple every day.
Happy Highlights
Lemon verbena makes great tea, ice cream, or sorbet. Check out this recipe. Comfrey is flowering again in the shade. It’s a great flower to include in your garden.

There’s still time to plant summer crops. Try squash, beans, corn, potatoes, melons, and other great warm and hot-season crops this month. You’ll find so much satisfaction in growing something you can eat.
