Wordless Wednesday: Warming Up to Gardening

Spring is in full swing, but we are still warming up to gardening for the new season. Old crops are dying back, so it’s time to get out there and plant anew. Here’s some inspiration from the Gardenerd Test Garden to get you going this week.

A New Start

New green onions pop up under protective cages in the spring garden.
Radish and spinach sprouts fill a raised bed under a protective cage. We like Malaga radishes for springtime. They’re purple and quick-growing.
Our peppers (and tomatoes) are under grow lights a little longer while we prepare the beds. Sweet and spicy peppers – take your pick or grow them both!
Our nectarine tree is setting fruit.
We cleared the old kale plants from this bed to make it ready for sweet corn and squash. Coming soon! Here’s our video on bed prep.

Get Growing!

This purple artichoke is thriving after it was transplanted into a Vego Garden bed from a container.
Blackberries are setting fruit. Can’t wait for them to ripen.
It’s strawberry season. Plant new crowns or revive old plants with this trick.
poppies, calendula and nasturtiums are giving bees plenty to eat.
Magnolia peas finally took off once the rats stopped eating the tendrils.
Nicotiana flowers attract hummingbirds and pollinators. They fill the space nicely.

We hope this inspires you to plant something this week, whether indoors or outside. We’re warming up to gardening at our own pace. Enjoy the process.
