Wordless Wednesday: Stages of Summer

The summer garden doesn’t happen all at once, there are stages of summer. Some crops are just getting started, while others are finishing up. We celebrate the impatience and anticipation of the summer garden in pictures this week.

Stages of Summer – Anticipation

Our watermelon seeds have sprouted. If you missed our video on how to grow them in small spaces, check it out here.
Our sweet and hot peppers are starting to flower
This is a different variety of dragon fruit that is starting to flower. It’s called S8 – Sugardragon. Thanks to Rishi Kumar at Sarvodaya Institute for giving me a cutting! This is the first year we’re seeing flowers – very exciting!
It’s time for clothespins on the corn when the silks emerge. This prevents corn worms from getting inside. Watch our video about this technique here.
Volunteer tomatoes will be tasty and rewarding this summer. We love it when they sprout up randomly. They product tons of fruit!

Stages of Summer – Finishing Up

Parsley is setting seed at the end of its season
Ladybugs are feeding on aphids on these celery flowers

Stages of Summer – Somewhere In Between

Roses are doing their summer thing
We don’t remember planting delphinium seeds, yet here they are. LOL!
Strawberries grow compactly and mostly insect-free in our Greenstalk vertical garden. Want one for yourself? Use our link and discount code GSGARDENERD to get $10 off.

Get excited about the first signs of fruit as well as the harvest. No matter what stage of summer your garden is in right now, enjoy the process. Gardening is about the journey, not the destination.
