Squash was mostly a bust this year (for many of us in SoCal) but this one cute Futzu pumpkin is putting on a show.

Wordless Wednesday: New Life in Fall

As we transition from summer to cool-season crops, we see new life in fall. Out with the old, in with a whole new palate of flavors. Here’s some inspiration to keep growing this fall if you can.

The last sweet pepper harvest before we pull the plants to make room for kale.
Home made, home grown cayenne pepper is fragrant and has a kick!
Cleveland sage starts to flower in the garden
The first sign of stinging nettles this fall.
Milkweed is flowering and ladybugs are eating the aphids it attracts.
The loquat tree is starting to flower. We love this fall fruit.
We got 1 1/2 inches of rain last week. More please!
Starting a new patch of semi-perennial green onions that we’ll use all season for cooking.
Tree kale cuttings newly installed in their new home. The old plants are too tall to reach (about 12 ft. tall).
Swallowtail caterpillars look like bird poop, but no, they’re just hanging out in our citrus trees. We leave them be, even though they eat the leaves.
Mittens guards the garden as we plant fall crops.

Enjoy these changes as we see new life in fall. Plant something to tend indoors if you can’t plant outside.
