Wordless Wednesday: Before I Leave

Before I leave on vacation for a week, I feel a bittersweet connection with my garden. I know all the tomatoes will ripen while I’m gone and I want to be here to witness it (and harvest them). But the pull to get away is strong as well. The garden will probably do better without me – that is often the case. Here’s some inspiration whether you are staying in town or heading out on a trip.

Starting Out

This S8 dragon fruit just finished flowering. It’s different than its neighbors. We can’t wait to taste the difference.
Spaghetti squash starts to set fruit. We usually hand pollinate these to ensure every flower sets fruit.
Cilantro in July! We seeded this bed in the shade (watch our video on how) and it’s working out great!
Miniature White cucumbers start to form on the vine. Blurry, but definitely there.

On Its Way

Henderson’s bush lima beans are going crazy right now. We will let them dry on the vine before harvesting in late summer.
We grow these snacking peppers for the hubby.
Fuji apples are starting to turn color. We hope we can harvest before the rats discover them.
Our Yard long beans are just getting started. By the time we get home they’ll be 3 feet long!

Ready and Beyond

These black vernissage tomatoes are so beautiful. Sliced or diced, they are delicious too.
Pressure canned the last of the carrots so we could make room in the fridge. We followed the instructions in this book.

Get your drip irrigation ready for vacation watering and enjoy time away from the garden. Or relax and enjoy a Staycation, and all the fresh harvest! I plan to do that before I leave.
