Wordless Wednesday: Back from Vacation

When I get back from vacation, I always anticipate that first walk through the garden to see what it did without me. It’s humbling sometimes, when the garden thrives in my absence. But, as I often say, Nature always wins. Let’s see what she did while I was gone.

Stowell’s evergreen sweet corn is growing taller to fill the bed. These were only a few inches tall when we left.
Pineapple update: it’s growing and looking more like a fruit every day
The first blackberries are turning color.
Our kale escaped through its floating row cover. Time to harvest and make kale salad or something else. Here are our favorite recipes.
Green onions are setting seed in one bed.
Breadseed poppies are about the bloom.
Poppies and alyssum (in our Greenstalk) make great partners in the garden. Use our link to get a discount on your own Greenstalk.
Wasps visit our citrus tree sometimes. We’re okay with that because they are pollinators.
Apricot mallow, a CA native, blooms in the front yard
I think the pomegranate roots must have hit paydirt this year because the tree is full of blossoms setting fruit.

It’s good to step away every once in a while to refresh and restore. Now that we’re back from vacation, we’ll be planting more spring/summer crops, and weeding (of course). We hope this inspires your own garden activities this week.
