Wordless Wednesday: Spring Garden Update

The spring garden is slowly transitioning to warm-weather crops. As brassicas and peas come out, beans and tomatoes go in. As with any transition, work is required, but the payoff is worth it. Here’s some inspiration to help you with any transition happening in your life right now.

Our first blackberry starts to turn color. They will be dark, plump and ready to pick in no time.
Our first yard long bean has emerged. Soon the rest will pop up and cover the trellis.
Lemongrass that we transplanted 6 weeks ago has finally awakened. It sends out new shoots from cuttings.
Stowell’s Evergreen sweet corn pops up in a raised bed. When they get 1-2 feet tall we will plant squash around the base.
We transplanted tomatoes into our Vego Garden planters. Get your own planter box here and use our discount code GARDENERD10OFF for 10% off.
Ornamental poppies are about to burst open. Waiting is hard for these deep burgundy blooms.
Love in a Mist are starting to flower amid poppies, calendula, and borage.
Spinach and radishes are safe under cages. We’re harvesting these for salads
Cecile Brunner rose is covered in blossoms right now. Then we’ll have to cut it way back since it’s shading 2 raised beds.
Mittens surveys her kingdom from above with a trumpet vine flowering in the background.

We hope you enjoyed this spring garden update. There’s more to come. Post your own spring garden update below. Share with us how things are growing in your garden right now. We love hearing from you!

Thanks Christy! Will do. Have you ever tried potassium bicarbonate for PM?

I have not. I know folks who do use it, but I tend not to mess with things that can change pH in the garden.

    Hi Christy!

I started researching Cal Coast from aqua-flo – you really can’t beat those prices!!! They’re even having a soil sale this month for half off.

Garden is doing good, finally getting to filling containers with soil. Decided to find some wine barrels in the area to plant the cherry tomatoes in. And one of my cherrys has already started to get PM?? I removed those branches and any leaves I see it pop up on, but it’s too early for this 🙁 I’ve got a new round of seeds under the grow light – but in the meantime, any advice?? I’ve started to apply em-1 one to two extra times, since the mornings are so incredibly wet and dewy…

I bought some of that seed starting mix you recommended so I’ll get yet another round of tomatoes up under the grow light!

Good going, Sarah! We’ve found evidence of powdery mildew already here at Gardenerd HQ (on mint, no less). It’s been that perfect combination of damp and warm. Keep picking off the affected leaves and let’s see if the EM1 helps. If you have access to compost tea, that can help too. It’s been a weird spring.
