Wordless Wednesday: Giving the Garden Some Love

Much-needed rain in Los Angeles is giving the garden some love. Nitrogen-rich rain helps the garden flourish as spring approaches. Here’s some inspiration to help get you ready for spring.

Two types of broccoli and Romanesco are in the harvest basket this week.
Tatsoi started to flower this week. Time to pull it and make space for something new.
The same goes for these green onions. Once they start to flower it’s time to pull them.
Volunteer stinging nettles, calendula and poppies are showing up everywhere after the rain.
Our purple mustard is still going strong. Toss mustard greens into salads for a spicy punch. Use the link to help support Gardenerd.
Celeriac is starting to bulb up at the base. It will be another month at least before this is ready to pick.
Potatoes are showing signs of die back, which means it’s time to check for readiness. Soon we’ll harvest and cure these indoors. Find out more about harvesting potatoes here.
Volunteer lettuce and mache in the pathway are nearly ready to pick. Let volunteers do the work for you!
Something that looks like fire blight is back on our manzanita shrubs. Time to pull out the shears and alcohol (to sanitize between cuts).
Something new is coming where the container garden once stood. Stay tuned for a YouTube series about this project.
Loquat fruits are growing larger each week.
