While in Santa Barbara, I visited Island Seed and Feed, which is owned by a friend of a friend. I was in town giving a talk at the Santa Barbara Horticultural Society, and the owners of Island S&F offered to house me during my stay.
For years I have wanted to visit this mythical garden store. I was not disappointed when I finally stepped inside.

It’s a gardener’s paradise, with not just one brand of seeds available, but three (or 4? I lost count).

The owner, Matt Buckmaster, and I could spend hours talking (and we did, honestly). He likes to carry local artisan’s products, including a local compost manufactured by “one guy with a dream”.

You can get your baby chicks while you’re there, or shop their nursery for native plants or seedlings for your veggie garden too.

It’s worth stopping by if you are driving along the 101 FWY in Southern California. The sign may be obscured by overgrown shrubs (I can relate), but you’ll find just about anything you need for your gardening operation at Island Seed and Feed.
