Wordless Wednesday: Growing Through Winter

Things are rough out there and it’s only mid-January. Here’s some inspiration to keep you growing through winter, whether you are contemplating a spring garden or harvesting from your winter garden. Deep breath, everyone.

Our cayenne pepper plant is not only resisting winter’s mandate, it’s producing! These are now in the dehydrator for more chili powder.
Potatoes are pushing through soil to assert themselves against winter.
Sugar snap and snow peas have started flowering, bringing hope for spring.
Our broccoli is starting to set a head. Time to feed them to boost growth through the season.
These lettuces are bolting to seed (the title of my next novel), but they haven’t turned bitter yet. They still have something to give.
Don’t toss your mint plant if it looks dead. It’s just dormant. Watch our video on how to revitalize your mint.
Kohlrabi is bulbing up. It will be ready before any of the other brassicas.
Volunteers like stinging nettles, parsley, arugula and more carpet the ground at Gardenerd HQ. We love volunteers, they make the world a better place.
Last fall we tossed poppy seeds against this planter. Now they are jumping into action after the rains.
We love that loquats are fruiting in winter. They show signs of spring before it’s begun.
ICYMI – Our Kickstarter campaign for Bolting to Seed is in the pre-launch phase. Take a moment to sign up for notifications when it starts. It would help me a lot! Thank you!

Whether you are growing through winter, or in the planning stages for spring, keep your chin up and do something to move forward on your plans. You’ll feel better in the end.
