Is horticultural charcoal the same as biochar
From what I’ve read, horticultural charcoal is “activated charcoal” that didn’t quite make the cut for filtration purposes due to size. Biochar is pyrolized in a low-oxygen environment, which basically means little to no ash – all carbon. Activated charcoal produces a lot more ash, which isn’t necessarily good for garden soils, especially if you have alkaline soil already. Ash makes soil more alkaline. So stick with true biochar if you can.
