Fall equinox is September 22nd, and while we may not be done with summer just yet, it’s time for fall planning now. Why plan ahead? There are so many good reasons!
From a garden plan on paper or your computer, you will know exactly how many seeds to start, seedlings to buy, and how many seed packets need refreshing for the season. You’ll know where every crop will go, so you’ll know how to amend each bed. Wouldn’t it be nice to know all of that before planting a single seed?
This is what it looks like for me every season:

I spread out those seed packets, print up templates of my gardens, and start allocating space to each crop I want to grow.
It’s not hard, but there are strategies that make it easier. And, not to brag, but I’ve planning small gardens in tiny spaces for the most efficiency and biggest bang-for-your-buck for more than 25 years. Wanna know my secrets?
