1. November in the Garden – Speaking of Thanksgiving
Next week is Thanksgiving here in the US, and I wanted to share some of my favorite (and new) recipes that will make the day more flavorful. The holidays can be tricky, but food from the garden makes it better. Everybody eats, so food can bring us together.
Recent rains have helped the Gardenerd Test Garden grow. Our brassicas, salad greens, and root veggies are under floating row cover (to protect them from rats), and growing strong. We’re harvesting radishes, mustard greens (see recipe below), lettuces, and herbs. The carpet of stinging nettles and arugula is finding its way into meals too. Weeds are popping up everywhere, but wait until the soil dries down a bit before weeding them. Soggy soil compacts very easily, so resist the urge to tread just yet.
Since the hubby brought home more pumpkins, winter squash recipes are on my mind. You’ll find at least 2 new recipes below, as well as our yearly recommendations for Thanksgiving sides. Oh, and keep an eye out next week for our liquidation sale on The Ultimate Garden Bag (starts Monday, Nov. 24th). Enjoy the feast, however you cook it this year.
Happy gardening,
Christy

2. Video: Make the Best Pumpkin Bread from Your Own Pumpkins

Turn that pumpkin harvest into delicious pumpkin bread. The recipe makes 3 loaves. Watch this video for all the details:

This tasty sweet bread freezes well, so make it now, freeze it for other holidays next month. Defrost overnight in the fridge and heat it up to serve (or serve cold, it’s just as good).
3. Gardenerd Tip of the Month – Thanksgiving Recipes

There are hundreds of recipes in the Gardenerd archives that will highlight your home-grown produce (or store bought, too) this Thanksgiving. Here are some of our favorites:
New! Chickpea Stew with Orzo and Mustard Greens
Our newest find with savory tomato-carrot-brothy goodness. Use your salad green thinnings from the garden in this one.
Mushroom Rosemary Stuffing
This is the best, no lie. It’s a hit every time.
The Best Sweet Potato Recipe Ever
If, like me, you don’t like sugary sweet potato recipes, this savory one is for you.
Kale Salad with Pomegranate and Maple Pecans
we make this one every year. It’s a crowd pleaser.
4. Gardenerd Product of the Month – NEW! High Yield Small Space Organic Gardening

Christy’s new book is getting 5-star reviews! Here’s what critics are saying about it:
From The Gardenangelists, Carol Michel and Dee Nash:
“If you want a garden at your home and you don’t have a lot of space, [the book] has tons of ideas for how to make a really nice garden…There’s a ton of good information in here; [the author] really knows her stuff.”
From Helen Yoest, Bee Better Naturally:
As a dedicated organic gardener for wildlife and food, I was impressed by how [the author] could succinctly pack in so much information. High Yield, Small Space Organic Gardening will be all you need if you are new to organic gardening.”
