1. June in the Garden – Summer Starts Now

Summer Solstice begins June 20th at 1:50 P.M. PT. The wait is over for the longest day of the year. I don’t know about you, but it feels like summer took its time getting here this year. So I plan to enjoy it to the fullest. There’s so much to do in the garden right now, whether you are just getting started or already harvesting. For those with cold winters, it’s already time to think about starting cool-season crops. Folks with long seasons have a ways to go before then. Either way, enjoy the process.

This month Gardenerd HQ, we’re hand pollinating dragon fruit and squash flowers. We planted lettuces, parsley (in a shady spot) and yard-long beans. We’re mostly cleaning up spent flowers and putting down mulch to protect empty spaces. We’ve also done some summer fruit tree pruning on our loquats and citrus (see our video for details).

In this newsletter, you’ll find our latest YouTube video about summer pruning. Plus save 25% on Christy’s books this month, and check out our tips for harvesting summer crops.

Happy gardening,

Christy

Tomatoes are setting fruit now. We planted late this year, so they are just getting started.
