1. April in the Garden – Spring Excitement

Happy Earth Month, gardenerds! There’s a lot we can do/change to make the planet a better place, and starting a garden at home is one of them. But one of the big changes still needed is to reduce plastics in the garden. Microplastics are everywhere and gardening is full of plastic pots, plant markers, and other products made from plastics. Learn more about how we can reduce plastics in the garden here.

This month Gardenerd HQ, we transplanted tomatoes and planted basil seeds this week. We’re clearing old brassica beds to make room for warm-season crops. In the harvest basket: kohlrabi, carrots, green onions, turnips, lettuces, cabbage, artichokes, and the last of the oranges. Lemons are still abundant right now. If your fruit trees are flowering, it’s time to feed them! Do the earth a favor and use organic fertilizers and plenty of compost, worm castings, and mulch. All of these benefit the soil and the microbes in the Soil Food Web.

In this newsletter, you’ll find our latest YouTube video with one great fruit tree tip. Plus more Earth Month resources and info about our Creating a Healthy Garden online pest control course.

Happy gardening,

Christy
