1. April in the Garden – Our Garden Planet
The Earth is our Garden Planet – we grow what we need in its soil, we breathe its oxygen, we interact with all of its creatures. I for one believe it’s our job to return the favor and take care of this garden planet, so it can provide for future generations. April is Earth Month, but here at Gardenerd, Earth Day is every day.
In the Gardenerd Test Garden, we’re planting sweet corn from seed because hot weather comes early in our warm-winter climate. Soon to follow: squash, beans, and planting out tomatoes and peppers. We’re picking carrots, parsnips, and beets from the winter garden before planting another round of lettuces that will last until June. In the harvest basket: cabbages, the last of the shelling peas, and fruits like loquats and lemons. If you feel behind, take our garden planning course to jump-start your season.
In this newsletter, you’ll find our latest video with strategies to take for saving squash seeds before you plant. You’ll also find ideas for how to make Earth Day every day.
Happy gardening,
Christy
