1. SPRING IS HERE!

If ever there were a time to celebrate, for me, it’s the beginning of daylight savings time (DLST).  This year it comes 3 weeks early, so I’m even more overjoyed.  I know, I know, it’s dark in the morning and it screws up everyone’s sleep pattern and eating schedule for a while.  But it’s light out after work, my friends, which means more valuable gardening time for you and me.  This year, DLST happens to fall just before the beginning of spring.  Glorious March 20th – a day of celebration indeed.

If you haven’t planned out your spring garden already, the time is now.  For those in colder climates, there’s still time to get some seeds going in trays indoors.  If you need a refresher on what to plant in spring, here is a handy guide from a previous issue of the Gardenerd Gazette:

Here Comes Spring 3-2-06

So where does luck come in to the picture, as the title of this month’s Gardenerd Gazette would indicate?  Every gardener needs a little luck on their side when trying out new varieties, or just trying out gardening for the first time!  We’ve had many new gardeners send in questions recently to Ask Gardenerd, and while good information is always helpful, it’s important to remember that gardening is a process of trial and error.  There’s no better way to learn how to garden than to, as Nike puts it, just do it.  Keep those questions coming and remember that nature is on your side.  Happy spring, everyone!

2. ORGANIC GARDENING CLASSES – TWO CLASSES LEFT!

If you want to join us for any of the remaining 2 classes in the Gardenerd Organic Gardening Series, there’s still time.  The next class on Seed Starting, Transplants and Heirlooms is this Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. in Los Angeles.  The final class will be on Pruning, Tools and Tool Care on March 22nd.  For more information click the link below.

3. GARDENERD TIP OF THE MONTH: iTunes

Gardening goes hi-tech…It’s official – Gardenerd is now broadcasting the Tip of the Week on iTunes.  In fact, we are featured in the New Releases section under Podcasts this week.  You can subscribe to these 2-minute tidbits and share them auditorialy (yes, I made up that word) with your friends.  Of course, there are a bunch of other podcasts, both video and audio, on the subject of gardening.  You can download iTunes for free and you don’t need to have an iPod to listen to podcasts (oh, and those are free too).  Just listen from your computer.
