1. June in the Garden – June Bloom

As flowers fade in the summer sun, something else is blooming in the garden. Tomatoes, peppers, squashes and potatoes are flowering and setting fruit. It’s time to feed those crops when you see flowers start to form. That will ensure healthy fruit-set and productivity.

In the Gardenerd Test Garden, we’re harvesting blackberries, so we thought it appropriate to share our archives of blackberry recipes (see below). Tomatoes and peppers are flowering, sweet corn is tasseling out, and squash and cucumbers seeds have sprouted (better late than never). We’re planting watermelon seeds this week, and picking artichokes, lettuces, green onion tops, radishes, and strawberries. While the desire to run away on vacation is strong, there is still much to do in the garden.

In this newsletter, you’ll find our latest video on why we thin fruit trees. And check out another great recipe for parsnips (or other root veggies) with fresh sage and thyme.

Happy gardening,

Christy

Pomegranate flowers are busting out all over. A sure sign of June Bloom.
