1. June in the Garden

Summer Solstice has arrived! It’s time for barbecues, picnics, and summer squash. Are you sick of zucchini yet? We’ve been eating it since early May and we’re running out of things to do with it. So far we’ve made Chocolate Zucchini Bread (scroll down in the link for the recipe), Zucchini Pie, and grilled zucchini (rub with olive oil, salt and pepper. Grill 4 minutes on each side…delicious!

In our test garden, our cucumbers are climbing the trellis, and winter squashes are setting fruit (we’re hand pollinating every morning!). Sweet corn is chest-high and melons are starting to trail. Now is the time to plant second crops to replace cool-season plants as they finish up. Or, in hot weather locations, plant the last of the summer crops. Guide tomatoes up through cages so they don’t get unruly.

This month, we’ve got a new Podcast, a new YouTube video and plenty of great tips to share. Enjoy your garden as summer takes over, and Bon Appétit!

Happy Summer Gardening,

Christy

Greenstalk YouTube Review

We’re not big fans of vertical gardening systems. They usually lack what it takes to grow vegetables successfully without a lot of fuss. Greenstalk sent us their product to test and we shot the process, as well as the results of our efforts. Watch the video to find out what happened. We’re nearing 10K followers, thanks to you gardenerds! Keep sharing and subscribing. We’ll keep making helpful and informative videos. Promise!
